Sapphire Woodwind Quintet has been entertaining audiences with eclectic programs since 2007. Its mission to expand the woodwind quintet repertoire and perform music written by underrepresented composers, both past and present, has evolved into their current project, "More than Muses" . This multi-media lecture recital began as a labor of love in 2020, when the concert halls were closed due to the pandemic. The quintet researched, transcribed and arranged the works of historic female composers from the 8th through 20th centuries. This season, they presented a dynamic program by living female composers at Impromptu Fest (a week-long series organized by New Music Chicago), performed a live recital on WFMT - Chicago's classical radio station, and premiered a new program for children called "Buzz, Bang, Whoosh - The Science of Sound.
